RANT #1 - Dec 2nd 10

Theres no point or purpose to these rants really, they are just verbalising some thoughts to get them out of my head as much as anything.
The last few months have felt like living under an occupation. Albeit an occupation of public schoolboys, people who write letters in green felt tip to the Daily Mail and blokes who's political views are formed by what somebody called Roger told them at the golf club on Saturday. And it's becoming unbearable.
So from now on I intend to comment, randomly on the antics of this bunch of crackpots who are now running the country until they aren't running it any more. its not got a purpose other than to make me feel ever so slightly better.
So you've been warned.

TORY CO-OPS??- IS THAT LIKE PREGNANT VIRGINS OR FLAT HILLS

Tory co-ops?? (see this nonsense here)

Thank God the Co-op Party didn't mince its words:

Michael Stephenson, general secretary of the Co-operative Party, which counts 30 Labour MPs including schools secretary Ed Balls among its members, said: "George Osborne's comments show the Tories are completely clueless on co-operatives."

A BIT OF A BOOST IN THE POLLS

Well poll in the singular actually but you take comfort where you can these days.
Last Sundays Observer put the fear of Christ up the Tories and started the wobbling that will I believe lead to a narrow Labour victory at the next election. I know that I am in a minority of about 5 people but things are moving in our direction.
If the media could find a pair of balls then the Tories would be in even more trouble. they certainly look vulnerable and apart from being the duty of every Labour supporter to do what we can campaign wise it is also our duty to attack the Tories at every turn. They are a shambles and should be exposed as such.
If you didn't see the Observer poll it it's here
I am going to blog soon on the frigging disgrace that is the BBC at the moment. I think it should stand for Bastards Backing Cameron. More soon.

ARE WE BACK ON TRACK ?? A GOOD WEEK FOR LABOUR??

After what looked like being another shit week for the government and for Labour I think things have begun to look up a bit. Don't get me wrong I think it's going to be tough to win the next election but at least the Tories are under some kind of pressure and The Sun seems to be hell bent on making an arse of itself.

The win in Glasgow last night was better than expected and I suspect it was a combination of a number of factors:

a) We ran a campaign. Not rocket science I grant you but if the neighbouring seat's campaign record was anything to go by then the voters of this part of Glasgow probably haven't seen a Labour canvasser since Kier Hardie was a lad. I'm only speculating but I don't think Glasgow North East's voter ID returns will have taken up much space on the Labour Contact Creator server before the by-election team rolled into town.

b) Gordon Brown has had a mixed week but The Sun's peevish attack on him this week about the misspelled letter has backfired. Most of the people I have spoken to and heard on radio have begun their sentence with "I am no fan of Gordon Brown, but....." and have then gone on to say that they thought he was trying to do the right thing by sending a personal letter and that the nonsense in The Sun, and in particualr the secretly taped phone conversation was a bit of a low blow. The Brisitsh people are nothing if not fair and they don't like bullying. They especially don't like bullying by the mouthpiece of some overseas newspaper meglomaniac.

c) The Scottish Sun hasn't gone for the Tories in the same doe eyed way that their English counterparts have.

c) The Daily Mirrors' sterling work in keeping the pressure on the Tories must have some effect on working class Labour voters who surely by now are realising that although this might not be the Labour Government of their dreams it is a squizillion times better that the alternative. Their headline this week showing Cameron gurning and laughing his way through a Tory Central Office photo shoot at the Garden of Rememberance in London must surely have marched a few reluctant Labour 3's to the polling station. The Headline by the way was "How Low Cam You Go". The link is here
